It's all there - a wicked Duke and Duchess, the ghost of the murdered King, dim soldiers, strolling players, a land in peril. And who stands between the Kingdom and destruction? Three witches. Granny Weatherwax (intolerant, self-opinionated, powerful), Nanny Ogg (down-to-earth, vulgar) and Magrat Garlick (naïve, fond of occult jewellery and bunnies).

Esmerelda ‘Granny’ Wetherwax
[F/ 60+]   Lead witch. Aesthetically somewhat of the ‘wicked witch’ persuasion,
but certainly not spiritually. Firm but good.

Gytha ‘Nanny’ Ogg
[F] Married at least three times with fifteen living children.
Likes a tipple and a broad sense of humour. Also a witch.

Magrat Garlick
[F] The youngest of the witches, Magrat has a bit of the ‘New Age’ witch to her.

The Fool
[M but could be F as principal boy, 20s to early 30s] reluctant jester,
he is intelligent and meant for greater things.

 Leonel Felmet
[M] Duke, then King of Lancre. Cruel and power-hungry, in a mad way.
He gets progressively madder and crueller.

Lady Felmet
[F] Leonel’s wife. Calculating, power-hungry, cruel.

Tomjon
[M - could be F as principal boy 20s to early30s] a much admired,
extremely talented youngish actor. Vitoller’s son.

 Hwel
[M/F] a dwarf playwright. He is a genius with words and story, and is a slave to his words.
He is kind, loyal to the Vitollers, and keeps a caring eye on Tomjon.

 Verence
[M] an elderly ghost, late King of Lancre. He was cruel and power-hungry,
but in a regal, kingly way. Now he’s annoyed, and has a score to settle.

 Vitoller
[M] actor-manager of a travelling group of players,
who agrees to raise an abandoned baby as his own.

Mrs. Vitoller
[F] Vitoller’s kind and caring wife.

Sergeant and Guards
[M/F] bumbling, with a strong sense of self-importance.

Demon
[M/F] impatient, cunning, and a stickler for the rules. And, well, demonic.

Assorted
Robbers, Peasants, Players, Chamberlain
[M/F] all a little more on the bumbling side than the brilliant one.
